Heck mother yes.

Some of you may know this about me: I’ve always wanted to have entrance music. You know, like in movies where some bad dude walks in the room, it goes to slow-motion, and out of nowhere comes this awesome rocking song that makes you respect and fear said bad dude. Yeah, I’ve always wanted that. And the amazing song I’ve wanted to announce my entrance is the AutoZone theme song they play on the commercials. “Get in the Zone… AutoZone!” Something about that song always makes me smile, maybe because it seems like overkill for an auto parts store.

So last summer, to make this dream into a reality, I started searching the internet for the AutoZone song. My plan was to videotape myself walking into a room, put the footage into my computer, make it slow-mo, and add the song. To my dismay I couldn’t find it anywhere on the interwebs, try as hard as I might, so I deemed it necessary to record the song myself.

I started with some fake drums in this program called Reason. Once they were to my rocking specifications I put guitar to it by plugging straight into my computer and adding some horrible amp distortion sounds. Bass went the same way. For the vocals I decided to go a less-than-DIY route: since my band was in a recording studio at the time I took advantage of their nice vocal mic (and friendly engineer “Hatch”) to get some good sounds. Jon and Dave helped with some backup vocals, for which I am eternally indebted to them. Thanks guys! The mix-job I did on the song wasn’t exactly stellar, but you get the idea. The song being recorded, Jon put all the footage together into a podcast, and the result you can see below. My dream is realized.

Get in the Zone… AutoZone!
